Wet Blanket Over New House Excitement

So our beautiful new home is ready. It is not all done, but the builder is ready to pass it off to us. We are closing in a few days. We will not have a concrete driveway when we move in. The builder waited too long to pour the concrete, and it has now gotten too cold to pour. He thought it would be okay to give us a gravel driveway for three to four months, until late April.

We told him, we have a son in a wheelchair, and this is unacceptable. How can we wheel him down the drive to put him on the bus each day? They told us they would do something to suit the needs of the wheelchair. They built a wood ramp from the garage down to the street. The drive is going to have a crushed limestone poured on top of it, to help it not feel so rocky.

It made me furious for a number of weeks. I really didn't think that I needed to emphasize that we have a concrete driveway before we move in. We paid for a house and garage and driveway to be done by December 31st. So, we thought that is what we would get. We were wrong. They knew we had an immobile son, I told them from the beginning. Needless to say, if we ever do this again, I will absolutely let them know, a concrete driveway is imperative prior to us moving in!
